Works in polished bronze

After havingcrafted them in wood, Kieff felt the need to shape his works in another more suitable material that would reflect his vision of the finished piece. He settled on polished bronze not for its shine, but because it allowed him to show his work in its purest form - the material lending itself to the free flowing liquid-like shapes, as if freezing them in time, allowing the viewer to catch a prolonged glimpse of a work in movement or in genesis. Depending on the viewers standpoint, the sculptures are brought to life through the reflections proportioned by this material.

The foundries casting bronze in Montreal during the early 1970’s were few and his wishes resulted complicated for them to produce. Therefore, he decides to build his own foundry in 1972. He studies the art of bronze casting and settles on the silica sand moulding technique, allowing him to attain his desired results in a single casting without having to resort to welding. His agile hands dominated this technique to a degree of perfection.
